A Tale of Him and Her - Part 2

He was strong, and her hopes lifted.

She never made any demands, but if she was ever asked, his strength was all she wanted. Although the things that necessitated its build up broke her heart, she was too foreign to affluence and power to offer him any assistance with that. She dared not judge his claimed cruelty because his poorly hidden loneliness was so familiar it nearly bore her name; even though hers’ was rooted in anguished poverty, and his was an offshoot of emptiness centered in fame. They had so much in common, and yet no two persons could differ more. Still to her he was remarkable, especially since he refrained from treating her like the floor.

For all his lofty tales of a bitter man with whom no one could cope, all she saw in him was a frustrated fellow with too many bottled hopes. There was no one to talk to, no one who cared to understand. Tragically, although she did, there was no way she could provide for him a friend. He glanced at his watch again and her heart sunk; reality was returning just when her fantasies nearly had her drunk. What a fool she’d been to imagine this novel experience could offer her change; and even though this encounter was one she’d cherish, it would also remind her of what couldn’t be – again and again. To her that would be the worst torture and regardless of what she desperately longed for, she knew this person sitting across from her could never be her savior. He had his ample demons to fight and hers had already crushed her existence into darkness, so all she determined to do was endlessly wish his would leave before they drove him to madness.

She was quiet and he was brooding.

She felt very uncomfortable walking beside him. All of a sudden he seemed really angry and she couldn’t help but think she must have done something. She started to form a question but it stuck in her throat. She hated to leave with the thought that she’d made herself yet another person he'd loath.

The images his mind conjured of her lack of safety were disturbing and briefly the thought came to follow her to where she was returning. It was dashed however, the moment it crossed his mind. If by such behavior she weren’t repulsed or frightened, she’d be likely to conclude his sanity was timed.

-----------------

Just before they stopped her a taxi, they caught sight of a little lady heading their way and waving. From physical appearance, the little lady couldn’t have been over twelve years old but by the time she got to their side and began speaking, it shocked them that she was so bold! The little lady didn’t delay on small talk and the like, but instead told them both very plainly that she’d been led to give them some advice. She confirmed cluelessness of their identity and what they were going through, but claimed to have a message for them from someone who knew. Before they could look around properly and ask who’d done the leading, the little lady asked them if they were aware that they stood in need of saving. He looked at her and she looked at him, neither could figure out what the little lady was saying. When she noticed this, she offered a story as explanation.

The little one began telling of this King who’d suffered worse things than any human at the hands of the people He loved. They treated him more inhumanely than anyone else, without regard for His heart or worth. They were all lawless and committed heinous crimes for which they’d have had to pay with their lives – that is, if the King hadn’t intervened in time. Eventually, He was brutally killed in their place and ironically, though the King had chosen to put His life on the line, they assumed they’d forcefully taken it at the time.

At his confused look and her sad one, the little lady smiled sweetly and went on.

The King didn’t stay dead however, His father got Him up three days later and after that, all the people could escape their deserved death for their wrongs; but only if they believed the efficacy of and responded in gratitude to the King’s gift of life from then on. The point was, though currently both their lives seemed crammed with emptiness and they probably felt they’d individually witnessed the worst variations of humanity’s selfishness, there could be more to the story than just the pain they were going through; especially since the most relevant story really was that of the King, what He did, and what people could choose to let Him do. Because though people made mistakes the King never made one, and humanity was at its worst when they murdered the only truly perfect individual, in place of millions of guilty ones.

The little lady turned to him and assured him that the satisfaction from repaying people’s insincerity with variations of his, would still not satisfy him nor lead to the fulfillment of his dreams. Plus, the echoes from the void within won’t lessen until he let it get filled by the One whose love was everlasting. To her, the little lady grinned broadly and stated plainly that the King considered her perfect, contrary to what might have been said that left her battered physically and emotionally battered. However, that perfection could only find its proper expression if she learnt from Him because, after all, He’d been perfect longer than she’d known of her imperfections or the sorrows of failing.

Stepping back, the little lady spoke her summary: the savior for whom she’d been earlier wishing was the King and not he; and he could find an even truer person in the King who’d died to save them both than in she.

Grinning again, the little lady sauntered off; leaving him and her standing by the road, deep in thought…

Lie To Me...isn't it funny? ;)

Hello everyone, and a happy new month to you all!

Once again (same as last year), you may perish the thought of me greeting you with the claim that today must mark the celebration of folly. Because it doesn’t have to.
In fact if you’re a Christian, then it absolutely should not since - last time I checked (scripture that is) - foolishness isn’t something we believers laud.
(Lol, I can almost imagine some people rolling their eyes right about now…) ;)
I hate to burst your bubble but it is true. And this is where I try to convince you:

The Great Commission
Let’s have a quick reminder of what exactly your creative energy as a believer should be geared at shall we?
Matthew 28:18 -20 (NIV)
18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

If we’re supposed to teach them His commandments, what room is there for them to teach us to be lost?
And if we’ve chosen to submit ourselves and remain under the authority of Jesus Christ, why then are we trying to adopt a culture which contradicts everything righteousness stands for? Proverbs 26:18 likens the person who deceives someone else and claims it was just a joke, to a “…madman shooting firebrands or deadly arrows…” (NIV)

Can you attempt painting that picture in your head briefly? Think of all the damage that would result from an insane person ecstatically shooting flamed arrows all over the place. Pretty ‘funny’ huh?

How many of us walk around hoping we’d get lied to by someone? I mean, just ask yourself if your default mode is set to expect nothing but lies and deception from each person you encounter in a day. So tell me this; if you won’t enjoy being lied to EVERYDAY or being made a fool of the whole year through…why is it SUCH AMAZING FUN to do just that on one day?

So many relationship wallpapers and love quotes and what nots are very popular on the internet, telling you basically to stick with the person who’s most real with you, or one who isn’t too scared to be honest, and how his lies and deception is what broke her heart or pushed her away and stuff like that.

So if we all agree that lies are not so nice, what makes them so appealing on April first?

Who’s supposed to be Copying Who Again?
You’re the light – remember? They (those who reject Christ) are supposed to see you shining out in the darkness; you don’t snuff out your flame and join them to grope aimlessly. It just doesn’t work that way.

Matthew 5:14-16 (KJV)
14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

So do you think maybe that folks are going to suddenly start worshipping and glorifying God ‘cus we ‘played a good one’ on them or we ‘got ‘em’? Hmm?
You’re probably thinking I’m taking this too far but think about it. We’re followers of Christ. So we follow Him, and lead the lost to Him. So if we’re leading the lost then they should be following us. If that’s the case why is a fad that is clearly an offshoot of the nature of the devil (the father of ALL lies), something you now deem worthy of your attention and even (tragically) your celebration?

It’s very irritating if you ask me. Even more so because of how my brethren so carelessly embrace such worthless trends (a trend that has been going on for a really long time by the way). Deception isn’t new – read the book folks! It was the very thing that helped orchestrate our fall remember? Haven’t we gotten low enough already? If your answer’s ‘yes’ then how come so many of us are still eager to drive the vehicle of the deceiver when we claim to be conveyers of the gospel – of truth!?

So they say it’s okay to lie. So we lie. They powder it up as humor, don it this shiny robe called fun and introduce it to you as ‘Fun Prank’ or ‘Just-a-Joke’.

So yeah, let’s all become ‘the Joker’.
#smh…Batman will never know what hit him...
___________________________________________________________________
Now several people I’ve confronted concerning this have asked me point blank if I’m saying comedians are all going to hell or something.

Whoa. When did I say that?

You see the problem? That question assumes that ALL comedians lie to make successful careers. I don’t agree with that thought line. And shouldn’t we be concerned if we start thinking that it is impossible to generate laughter and be humorous without lying or exaggerating? I mean seriously, are we all that unfunny?
If you check twitter, you’ll see there are funny bones pretty much all over the place. If twitter is too wide for you then come on down to Nigeria! My people lack no humor! Take for instance this ‘African Parents Be Like’ theme that everyone has picked up all of a sudden and which has made the foundation for the fame of several dedicated instagrammers. To be honest, the stuff many of our parents did - whether to ensure we turned out as decent responsible adults, or maybe as a result of what they were fond of back in the day and how different it is from what obtains now - make for great comic relief when looked upon in hind-sight! And the best part is - THESE THINGS DID HAPPEN! Those experiences whether from family moments, or our journey through formal education, or things we did as children – they actually happened. And they can make you laugh regardless. Sometimes the humor source may be in the form of some creative puns, cheesy cracks or satyrs. A situation might even be negative or hurtful and yet there are those gifted with so much wit that they manage to reconstruct things by finding the one thing in the midst of everything else that can be laughed at or seen in a way which helps subdue sorrow.

So what’s your excuse?

Look, I’m not trying to give a lecture on the Dos and Donts of comedy. Making people laugh can be hard work sometimes, I’m aware. But I do know that you can’t give out what you don’t have; to give folks a reason to laugh I believe innate joy is a necessary ingredient. And the only source of joy I know is Jesus Christ. #shrug. He really is the answer to everything. So if you call yourself one of His own, and you understand that it isn’t ‘Some of you’ but the ‘Sum of you’ which ought to bring honor and glory to His name, you’ll understand that EVERY thing you do and EVERY aspect of your life should please Him.

Including your ‘joke’ life.

My life’s purpose is to serve, please and honor my Lord & Savior…I doubt He’d be impressed if I became a witty deceiver. Plus if I’m to live everyday as though it were my last, and if liars still don’t get to enjoy eternal rest, where does that leave me if the last day I lived was the day I joined the world to celebrate folly on April first?
Please, think about it.

Heads You Lose; Hearts You Win.- 1

They had been waiting a long time for this moment and it was finally here.

Everything was in place. Each had been anticipating this for quite some time and they knew success was pretty much in the bag if they could manage to push her far enough. If they could overwhelm her for just so long…

It was almost a no-brainer that the two would need little to no assistance once they were given a good kick-start. In fact, they figured they could get her to decide to take things to the climax herself even.

And that would make her free-fall even more spectacular; mostly because she would have unwittingly helped dig her own pit anyway.

It was so deliciously ironic.

Yes indeed. Every invaluable party to the implementation of this long time plan was on standby. Her ego, her emotions, her fears, her lusts, her weaknesses – everyone was in anticipation of some excitement.

She let out an adorable laugh and took a small sip from her glass of juice as he made a wisecrack about his arrogant, under-qualified boss. He had just closed from work and they were having a great time at his very stylish bachelor pad in an estate a few blocks from his office complex. He had finally won. Since they’d begun dating seven months ago, he’d tirelessly made one attempt after the other to get her to come over but she’d turned him down every time. In her opinion, it wouldn't have been decent, since they barely knew each other – and he lived alone. Thus, visiting her at the apartment she shared with two other ‘sisters’ from church had to suffice, aside from their other rendezvous at restaurants, malls and the like.

Now however, she was more comfortable with him. She knew him to a reasonable extent and was certain he was the last person on earth who’d try taking advantage of anyone – least of all her. He was a gentleman before he was even human as far as she was concerned and she trusted him completely…as she did herself. Obviously she wasn't a baby. There was no way she would let her heart out-yell her head in the permanent squabble they seemed to be in these days – especially whenever she was near him.

As he talked she zoned off and found herself imagining those excellently crafted lips of his making an impression on hers – and oh, what an impression she was certain they’d make! When he had to laughingly wave a hand in front of her face to regain her attention she shook off her distracting fantasies and chastised herself for letting them roll once again. Ever since they’d met, she’d gradually begun loosening the ribbons of scriptural discipline with which she’d kept her mind wrapped since she got saved, till it was left completely uncovered. Now she couldn't seem to keep one sensual or sexually unattached thought out of her head once she was near him, or she thought of him, or she heard his voice….

He seemed to like it that way though, saying she needed to be more open-minded and buttressed the point by ensuring she joined him on cinema trips where movies heavily pregnant with profanity and sex-worship were free to proceed through those open-doors of her mind to birth all they carried.

Done with his humorous tale of his boss, he fixed on her a steady, relaxed gaze and casually began adorning her with several compliments concerning her looks; each compliment more intimate than the former. Uncomfortable as she kept getting with his detailed expressions of admiration of her exterior, she laughed and widened her eyes appropriately at each inappropriate comment, letting him know that he was overdoing it and yet simultaneously rationalizing his actions internally by reminding herself that he’d always been the forward and honest type – and didn’t God recommend honesty as a necessary element in the life of one saved?

Exactly.

Anyway, at his offer to replenish her near exhausted juice supply, she shook her head and suggested he give her a tour of the outdoor premises of his home instead. Really all she wanted was a little distraction.

And maybe some fresh air as well…it was getting a tad too hot.

Get Out Of The Way Eyelash! (Cont'd)

Hi people!

So as I mentioned in the previous post (and as most of you already know), these eyelashes we’re talking about do pose themselves as nuisances on many occasions. Mine are hardly what you’d even refer to as long and full and yet they get in my eyes and bother me all the time! To be honest, sometimes they generate more discomfort than a stray particle of dust, or even a tiny bug, would.

I happen to be well aware of these facts.

However, I believe this also bears a relationship to our life’s happenings as well. Sometimes, when we miss it or mess things up and are totally convinced in our heads – by logical thinking or
systematic rational analysis – that we just have to be in the right, it doesn't feel very nice and pleasurable when the conviction of God’s word lets us know we really are just fooling ourselves.

I mean, ouch.

God's word should shine in our hearts
Now I don’t know about you but I believe it’s more painful to be proven wrong, especially when you’re so certain of being accurate in your judgment, than when someone simply confirms your miscalculation after you’ve detected it. It might not be fun dealing with it when God points out our mistakes to us and we may tug at that conviction and rebuke (just as we’d tug on a stray lash), to get it out of our heads or our hearts but often, they don’t budge. Why? Because God’s truth belongs in our hearts to illuminate it and guide us right; just as our lashes belong on our lids and don't mean to be such pains...they’re just doing their job!

Thus, if you can’t imagine yourself walking around in a mega-dusty room (or in the Sahara), without a single strand of an eyelash to protect your eyes from all those tiny particles, then it should be equally difficult to imagine yourself walking around in this sinful world without the truth and light of God’s word, and the assurance that Jesus is, guarding your heart.

God’s instruction may not always align with our wants – but they never lead us to regret. So even when they don’t always go in the direction I want (literally), I still love my lashes…you can bet. ;)

P.s: They behaved after I took a shower; so I studied a little more & had an awesomely successful paper.
Thank God. :D
